Where Chemistry Makes Sense

This was taken in my organic chemistry class. It includes students working together. I learned that from a guided inquiry workshop. It suited my teaching style as well.

Rather than having students copy lecture notes, I used worksheets that had reaction mechanisms on them. I wanted students to practice in class how I thought they should learn on they own. I thought this was an active learning — practicing — activity. The students could help each other. Talking and helping also helped the helper. While this was going on, I went around the class to answer questions, or I might add comments to help explain why reactions should take place.
